Almost every year since 1984, one day before the All-Star-Game, the NBA has held a night of contests. These contests include H.O.R.S.E., a team shooting contest, a skills contest, a three point shootout, and a dunk contest. This night has gotten many viewers and has attracted fans to watch the big event the next day: the All-Star-Game.

The NFL all star game, the Pro Bowl, could really use a promotional strategy like this since the Pro Bowl isn't very exciting any more. This...

Dear David Stern (commissioner of the NBA),

Your fans have a serious problem voting the correct players into the All-Star-Game. I have mixed reviews about the starting All Stars chosen by the fans. In some cases, the fans make good decisions, and in others they just vote for the only players they like and know well.

Allen Iverson: This is a joke! The guy stunk in Memphis to start the season, and then played just OK for the Sixers. I'm so sick of fans just voting in the veterans who are well known and were only good in their prime!!! Rajon R...

Dunking Going Down

In the past few years, the slam dunk contest has been below expectations and hasn't attracted as many fans as it used to, possibly because the idea of the contest has strayed from the best athlete (like it was when Vince Cater dominated in 2000).

Instead, the contest has become about who can don the best costume (kryptonite vs.superman). Contestants have also been jumping off teammates' backs to complete dunks, just winning because they're the fan favorite, taking up to 5 m...
