Dear David Stern

Dear David Stern (commissioner of the NBA),

Your fans have a serious problem voting the correct players into the All-Star-Game. They continue to vote for veterans who are having bad seasons over up-and-coming players who aren't as well known, but are playing excellently. Choose one of these four courses of action to make sure the good players are rewarded.

1) Put fewer players on the All-Star ballot. Instead of fans being able to vote for any player in the league, give them a choice of just a few players that you see as somewhat deserving of being on the All-Star roster. This will ensure that an unworthy player couldn't possibly be voted a starter.

2) Separate the ballot by position. Instead of fans voting for two guards, have them vote for one point guard and one shooting guard. This will guarantee that you have different types of players in the game.

3) Give players and the media a vote too. Although you still want the fans to have some say (since the game is for the fans), you could have the media and players, who have experienced playing against all of the candidates, provide another view-point.

4) Let me pick the players.

Sincerely,

Lev Akabas

1) In baseball, you don't have the problem of veterans getting worse and fans still voting for them, because careers don't decline as much in baseball.
2) The players couldn't be allowed vote for themselves. It wouldn't matter because nobody else would vote for them if they were bad.

if you only pick, that's inconceivably unfair to others.

2 things to say:
#1 I understand what you're saying, but everyone should be able to vote for anybody. In baseball, that's what they do, and it works out perfectly.
#2 Players voting? They could just vote for themselves...
#3 YOU!? PICK!? THE PLAYERS?! I understand your frustration, but majority rules so...

While they are all better options than what is currently place, I support choice #4!
